Overseas Filipinos Cannot Escape Marriage Through Foreign Divorce, Says Justice Department
The Philippine Justice Department has clarified that Filipino citizens who obtain divorces abroad remain legally married under Philippine law. Justice Undersecretary Ian Norman Dato emphasized that foreign divorce decrees cannot be recognized, as marriage is constitutionally protected as an inviolable institution.
